New Work by Felix d'Eon Opening Reception
8pm - 10pm
Felix d'Eon is very interested in mysticism, history, myth and mythology, and in antique illustrations. His work draws in all of these themes, but always in reference to his homosexuality - a gay mysticism, gay history, gay myth and mythology. He often feels that his feelings, emotions, and desires are not sufficiently represented, and so his work is an attempt to discover that in these themes and address it. But always through a lens of sensuality - the hook to draw the viewer in. That is why he uses the male nude so much - for the beauty and sensuousness of the gay and male body, as a lure, as a vision, and often, as a beautiful end in itself. Because of his own Mexican and European heritage, he draws on Greek and Roman traditions of art, literature, myth and their hidden traditions of homoerotic and same-sex love, as well as those of my Mexican, and especially Aztec, heritage.
The reception is free and open to all ages. |

Magnet's free, all-ages monthly open mic night occurs on the third Wednesday of each month. Sign-up starts at 7:30 with performances beginning at 8pm. This month's featured artist is Sam Sax.
"sam sax is a queer, jewish, cissy-gendered performance poet, who recently just started running the new poetry mission and a writer's workshop at the berkeley slam. a representative of the 2010 san francisco poetry slam team he has performed or facilitated workshops at a variety of queer [youth] performance spaces, smryc, about face, homo ago go, university of texas austin, university of tuscon, as well as numerous poetry slams, open mics, and university shows. he toured the united states and canada for a little under a year. now he does the occasional writing/poetry workshop with lyrical minded and is currently working on his first manuscript hella gay notes from underground." |
